Fixed hoop - foundation and stability
A fixed hoop is a pole set in a concrete foundation typically 60 × 60 × 100 cm. Absolute stability - it does not shake on a hard dunk, does not move when the ball hits the backboard. This is the standard for any court intended for regular, serious play.
Advantages:
- stability at the level of professional facilities,
- durability under the most intensive use for years,
- no need to prepare and store for winter,
- professional look and the feel of a real court.
Limitations:
- the foundation must be built together with the court slab - it cannot be added afterward,
- hoop location is final - changing it requires chiselling concrete,
- higher cost than a portable hoop.

Portable hoop - flexibility at the cost of stability
A portable hoop is a system with a base filled with water or sand (typically 100-200 kg). It can be moved, stored for winter, taken to another court. Ideal when court location is not yet final or when the court is meant to be seasonal.
Advantages:
- can be repositioned and stored,
- quick installation without groundworks,
- lower entry cost.
Limitations:
- lower stability - backboard shakes on a hard dunk,
- arm extension usually smaller than fixed (up to 50 cm),
- base takes space under the backboard - run-off zone must be wider.
Height-adjustable hoop
Height adjustment is a feature worth considering whenever different age groups will use the court. Adjustment allows setting the hoop from 2.1 m (for the youngest children) to the official 3.05 m for adults.
Most Hoopair and Goalrilla models in the Hoop And Court range have height adjustment. D60 models adjust in the range 165-305 cm, D72-L in the range 185-305 cm. The D54-F (fixed) adjusts from 215 to 305 cm.
Hoops rated for hanging on the rim
Not every hoop is designed for dunks with hanging on the rim. Hoop And Court models that support this are Hoopair D72-L and D60 plus Goalrilla DC72E1, CV72, and GS72. For players training dunks this is important information - cheaper models with a rigid rim can be damaged under aggressive use.
How to choose
If you are building a permanent court for regular play - a fixed hoop with height adjustment is the obvious choice. If location uncertainty or seasonal use are factors - portable gives flexibility. If children of different ages will use the court - height adjustment is a must-have.
