The answer to "how many years will the court last" depends on several factors: surface material, intensity of use, base quality, and basic maintenance. Durability of polypropylene modular surfaces

Good-quality polypropylene tiles, with correct installation and standard use, last 10-15 years without losing significant mechanical properties. Polypropylene is abrasion-resistant, does not absorb water, and does not react to freeze-thaw cycles.

Factors that extend service life:

• UV stabilisers in the material - colours do not fade for years,
• level, stable base - tiles do not work excessively under load,
• regular cleaning - removing sand and debris that mechanically wear the surface.

Durability of SES Battle elastomer surfaces

Elastomer (TPE) is more flexible than polypropylene, which means better shock absorption but also slightly different wear characteristics. Under intensive training at the highest level, elastomer surfaces maintain their parameters for 8-12 years. In recreational use - considerably longer.

A key advantage of elastomer is that its mechanical properties (shock absorption, friction coefficient) degrade much more slowly than in cheap polypropylene. A court after 5 years of use still plays like new.

What shortens service life

Modular surfacing wears faster when:

• the base has unevenness - tiles work on every load, which speeds up connection failure,
• vehicles are used on the court (forklifts, bicycles, scooters) - tiles are not designed for that,
• the court is regularly muddy and not cleaned - sand acts like sandpaper,
• there is contact with chemicals (oils, paints, cleaning agents) - this destroys the material structure.

Replacing damaged tiles

One of the biggest advantages of modular surfacing is the ability to replace individual tiles without affecting the rest of the court. A mechanically damaged tile is removed and replaced with a new one in a few minutes. Thanks to that, a court can serve much longer than its most heavily used sections - for example the area under the backboard where landings are most intense.

Comparison with polyurethane surfacing

Polyurethane surfacing requires renewal of the top layer every 5-10 years to maintain full performance. Colour fading under UV is clearly visible after 3-4 outdoor seasons. Modular surfacing stays visually and mechanically unchanged over that time.
